Met up with some Friends in Carden Alvar to watch the Persieds last night. The waxing moon was very bright, and cast shadows until about 11:30. Once it set, it was considerably darker. The SQM was reading 21.10. We were hopeful for northern lights, and they were visible on the cameras, but the magnetic filed was uncooperative all night. The Kp went from 6 to 4.
It cleared up for the most part, and conditions were better than the forecast. We saw a total of 63 meteors between us from about 8:30 pm and 1:00 am. There was a small outburst at 12:08, and I saw a double shortly after setting up.
Several times through the night we heard coyotes. There were also Whip-poor-wills, and at dusk the mosquitoes were brutal. A small herd of cows dropped by for a bit.
We left once the fog rolled in.
