Sudbury Neutrino Observatory

Visited the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory several years back. SNOLAB is a facility located in Vale’s Creighton mine 2000m underground. For context, the CN Tower is 553m tall. This is necessary to shield the experiments from cosmic rays and other background radiation.

Neutrinos generally don’t stop for anything. Maybe 8 light years of lead would shield you from them. Otherwise about 100 trillion neutrinos pass through your body every second.

Lots of stuff was still under construction at the time.

Despite the vast number of neutrinos in the universe, with trillions passing through every square centimetre of Earth each second, they are extremely difficult to detect.

Oh, never mind here’s one.
