500 people used to live here… now it’s a ghost town.
Remains of the foundation for the steam powered gang saw at Gilmour’s saw mill. David Gilmour built 11 miles of railway siding here that connected to J.R. Booth‘s Ottawa, Arnprior and Parry Sound Railway. The interchange was near Canoe Lake station.
The venerable birch still stands over the Mowat Cemetery. Canoe Lake used to be visible from this vantage point, but after 100 years the area is completely overgrown.
The log cabin below is one of the few remaining structures, and was used as a shelter hut until 1909.
