The Light Show That Just Kept on Giving

When I left work I was just hoping to see some green through some sucker holes. So off to Carden Alvar I went. On a side note, I happened to see several tree swallows up there.

Fortunately as the sun was setting the wind picked up, and the low clouds blew off to the east. It was perfectly clear for the rest of the night. The waxing crescent moon was 6.7% illuminated.

Waiting for it to get dark…

The Kp had been 7 most of the day, and dropped to 6 when I arrived. The interplanetary field was an extraordinary -15.8 all night long. There were pillars visible to the naked eye before it was really dark, but most of the night there was a nebulous band without much definition.

I was lucky to get International Space Station Expedition 68 as it flew over.
