2023 Geminid Meteor Shower

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy for most of the night. Had a small window (in time, and between the streetlights) to capture a few meteors. The SQM reading was predictably bad at 16.28. Nicole and I saw 16 in a little over an hour from our separate locations before the clouds rolled in.

Thursday Night: The weather was predicted to be much better, so it was worth a trip up to Carden Alvar. It was very windy but never got below 3°C. Arrived and set up by 9pm, and stuck around until about 11pm. The SQM reading was much better up there at 20.66, and the wide open sky made it possible to see from horizon to horizon in all directions. Nicole wasn’t so lucky from her location. The light dome and clouds to the south were the only real issues. Prior to leaving, we saw a combined 74 meteors including a couple of doubles, and some super bright ones. I also saw 5 from the car on the way home. Overall an excellent night, but I should have taken an additional camera.
